I'm a mom, a typesetter, and a graphic artist -- in that order.
I've been a typesetter since I left college, um ... 26 years ago. I attended college in the Catskill Mountains of New York State for graphic arts. From there I worked at a commercial printer in a small town for six years, until I decided to go at it alone in 1978. CC Comp and Design was established in November of that year.
When I first started setting type, the world was just beginning to use typesetting computers. They were still using lead type in a lot of places, including the shop where I worked. I was the first computer typesetter to be hired. Typsetting has come a long way since then ... thank goodness! We've gone from big, clunky and heavy typesetting computers to smaller clunky typesetting computers, to the present state of the art: a PC. The profession's name has even changed -- to desktop publishing.
I do my composing on Adobe PageMaker, although I have many other desktop programs also installed.
I still enjoy, very much, creating every job. The end product is always to my satisfaction, or I wouldn't charge anyone for it. I've been fortunate enough to have met many enjoyable customers, who seem pleased with my work.
On a more private side, my two boys, Gregory and Shane (left), are the joys of my life, and keep me plenty busy in those non-working hours. Another passion of mine is graphics -- print graphics or web graphics, as well as creating web pages. Computer graphics is a hobby that I waste lots of time on, but enjoy every moment. I'm a founding associate in the group Paint Shop Pro Interactive Zone (PSPIZ), a group of people on the Internet who have in common our graphics software, Paint Shop Pro. Much of my time online is spent with my fellow associates constantly trying to improve the site.
Please feel free to contact me -- if you're interested in desktop publishing: newsletters, brochures, ad books, flyers, letterheads, business cards or web graphics and/or web page design. I'd enjoy hearing from you.
